Equipment

  • Large round serving platter
  • Small serving bowl for the honey yogurt fruit dip
  • Sharp chef’s knife
  • Cutting board
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spoon or small whisk
  • Paper towels or clean kitchen towel for drying the fruit
  • Small fruit skewers or cocktail picks, optional

Ingredients

Fresh Fruit Platter

  • ½ watermelon small seedless, cut into long wedges
  • ½ honeydew melon peeled and thinly sliced
  • ½ cantaloupe peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 dragon fruit peeled and cut into wedges
  • 2 cups strawberries fresh
  • cups blueberries fresh
  • 2 cups red or purple grapes
  • cups cherries fresh
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Honey Yogurt Fruit Dip

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt plain
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice fresh
  • Pinch of cinnamon optional

Instructions

  • Wash the berries, grapes and cherries under cold water. Dry them very well with a clean kitchen towel. This helps keep the fresh fruit platter from becoming watery.
  • Cut the watermelon into long triangular wedges. Slice the honeydew and cantaloupe into thin pieces that are easy to pick up. Peel the dragon fruit and cut it into wedges or bite-sized chunks.
  • Leave the strawberries whole or slice larger berries in half. Keep the grapes in a few small clusters for a full, abundant appearance.

Make the Honey Yogurt Dip

  • Add the Greek yogurt, honey, vanilla, lemon juice and cinnamon to a small bowl. Stir until smooth and creamy. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Arrange the Fruit Platter

  • Place the watermelon toward the back of a large round serving platter. Arrange the honeydew along one side and the cantaloupe along the bottom.
  • Add the grapes, cherries and strawberries in separate sections. Place the blueberries in a small bowl near the centre to keep them contained.
  • Scatter the bright dragon fruit pieces around the platter and finish with fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately with the honey yogurt fruit dip.
  • For the best fresh fruit platter with honey yogurt dip, dry every piece of fruit thoroughly before arranging it. This keeps the platter fresh, prevents watery juices from collecting, and helps the colourful fruit stay bright and appealing.

Notes

  • For the best fresh fruit platter with honey yogurt dip, choose ripe fruit that is still firm. Very soft berries or melon can release too much juice.
  • Wash and dry all the fruit thoroughly before arranging it. Wet fruit makes the platter watery and can thin out the yogurt dip.
  • Arrange the larger watermelon and melon slices first, then fill the smaller spaces with grapes, cherries and berries. This helps create a full, colourful party fruit platter.
  • The honey yogurt fruit dip can be prepared up to three days ahead. Keep it covered in the refrigerator and stir well before serving.
  • Add the honey gradually and taste as you go. Some fruit is already very sweet, so the dip may not need much.
  • Prepare the birthday fruit platter a few hours ahead, cover it tightly and refrigerate. Add mint and delicate fruit just before serving.
  • Feel free to swap in seasonal fruit such as pineapple, mango, kiwi, raspberries or blackberries.
  • Serve the platter well chilled. It is especially refreshing after a heavier birthday dinner or summer meal.
